The Couple

So if you ever need a face to the words you are reading, there you go. I am currently 24 years old, and I am an educator by profession. When I am not teaching, I am either studying for my part-time degree course, getting my zen on in the yoga studio or spending time with my man or beautifully dysfunctional family of 6. I am rather obsessive when it comes to the details and I have been described as being particular about things that I like. My taste is usually very specific and I would say my strength in planning is my ability to be decisive (except when it comes to where to eat). I am not so great at adapting to sudden changes in plans, being patient in the face of incompetence and hiding my RBF (resting-bitch-face).

But of course for every weakness I have, I have my very handsome better half that more than makes up for it.

Introducing Norazli, or more fondly known as Azli/Lee. He is two years older than I am, and basically the yin to my yang, the salt to my pepper, the fork to my spoon and the cheese to my mac. He does client servicing for a creative agency. And when he is not at work, he is with me or his friends (I'm sure they'll come up in the blog at some point), on the field playing soccer, or behind the computer screen playing games. You can definitely count on him to break the ice in a group of people and make sure everyone is comfortable. Between the two of us, he is definitely the more patient one and the one with better people skills.

So, how did you two meet?

Disclaimer: Brace yourselves for an overdramatic teen love story.

During my end year holiday after my GCE O'Level Exams, at 16 years of age, my best friend from my childhood randomly gives me a ring and asks if I'd wanna go out with a friend of hers. She said it'd be in a group and no obligations, but she thinks that he'd be perfect for me and that we'd really hit it off well. Btw, this was still the era of no mobile phone in my life, so I was going in blind. But since I had nothing to lose, I agreed. Little did I know, that day would be the first time I lay eyes on the man I would spend the rest of my life with.

My man was not the one I was being set up with!

He was one of the guys in the group that day, and of course there was some magical instant connection. I remember my first words to him were "I like your hair." The rest of the day was spent stealing glances, making awkward conversation, you know the drill. After that day we added each other on MSN (haha, those were the days) and got to know each other more. He was in a long term relationship at the time, so we stayed friends for awhile. Long story short, we were friends who saw each other through a couple of messy relationships before we finally realised that what we've been missing is each other.

So on the 27th of July 2009, he calls me at 3.30 am, asking me what I can see from my window. After much babbling in my slumber, I look out the window and there he is with candles lit to form a heart asking me for mine. And that's where our story began. Now close to 7 years on, we are still flipping the pages together and hopefully our 100th chapter will be the last one in this book, as we start page one on our life together as husband & wife.
